SKATEBOARDING COMMUNITY MEDIA PLATFORM // Launched August 2006
Amateur Skater Community Website
AmateurSkater.com was an online community that brought skaters from around the world together. Members could upload videos and photos to show off their skills, earn votes from the community, enter contests to win prizes, and connect with fellow skaters through forums and news.
The Challenge
AmateurSkater.com started with one skater who wanted a place for his crew to share tricks, photos, videos, and news. As word spread, the idea grew into something much bigger: a worldwide community that needed member accounts, media uploads, voting, contests, and forums, all with a look that felt true to skate culture.
Solution & Strategy
We designed a gritty, street-inspired interface in charcoal and bright orange, with bold skater imagery and a custom emblem that capture the energy of the sport. We built it in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a custom CMS. Member login and sign-up sit at the very top, and a multimedia search lets users find videos and photos by type and popularity. A “Top 5 Skating Videos” section with voting, an “Enter Here to Win” contest area, premium memberships with extra storage, forum threads, and an online store turned a small group of friends into a thriving skate community.
